The NFL regular season kicks off with arguably the best rivalry in the sport when the Green Bay Packers visit the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football. The Bears are currently set as 3-point favourites, but the betting action slightly favours the Packers to cover the number in this one. Last year, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers engineered a last-minute comeback win against Chicago in Week 1 and the Packers have won five of the last six meetings between the two teams.
The Philadelphia Eagles are the biggest favourite on the board this week at -10 at home to Washington. The Eagles have won and covered four in a row against Washington, but bettors are baulking at this high spread. About 70 percent of point spread bettors are backing Washington to cover and we are seeing some moneyline bets at +358 for the outright upset.
The Dallas Cowboys are expected to get a huge boost with running back Ezekiel Elliott ending his holdout and signing the richest running back contract in the league. Speculation is that Elliott will play against the New York Giants on Sunday and about 60 percent of bettors currently like the Cowboys to cover the spread as 7-point favourites in that matchup.
Get The Best Odds
Point spread betting action is split very evenly for the Sunday Night Football game and the two Monday Night Football matchups. On SNF, the defending-champion New England Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers as 5.5-point favourites after opening at -6. On Monday, the Saints are set as 7-point favourites at home to the Texans and the Broncos visit the Raiders in a game that’s currently set as a Pick ‘em.
Popular Pick of the Week
Possibly the most popular bet of the week could be the Kansas City Chiefs. As of this writing, almost 90 percent of point spread bets were backing the Chiefs to cover as 3.5-point favourites on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Other popular bets include the Cleveland Browns at -5.5 at home to Tennessee and the Seattle Seahawks to cover as 9.5-point favourites against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals.
Two of the NFL’s biggest stars called it quits before this season, but some bettors don’t think it’ll be the last we see of them on the gridiron. Sports Interaction has set odds of +485 that Rob Gronkowski will play this season and an Andrew Luck return is at +635. Gronk was at +650 to return originally before rumours that he could play again surfaced in the last week.
Bettors also like wide receiver Mike Williams at a whopping +6600 to lead the league in touchdown receptions, quarterback Jared Goff to throw the most TDs (+1300), and Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery at +750 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
