Sports Return Amidst COVID-19

COVID-19 continues to take its toll on the sports betting community, with the major leagues still shut down in North America. While talks have heated up with the MLB, NHL and NBA, all we know for sure is there are a few sports that have returned and are available to bet on. The UFC, PGA, Bundesliga and more have all returned, as well as ample NFL props. As sports begin to return amidst COVID-19, read on below to find the best bets to quench your sports betting thirst.

After Saturday’s UFC 249 took in unprecedented numbers from MMA bettors, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is back at it this week with two more events from Jacksonville, Florida. As was the case last weekend, these next two events will be live, but without any fans at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Wednesday’s Fight Night 171 card is headlined by Glover Teixeira facing Anthony Smith in the main event. Smith is a -200 favourite and his biggest achievement to date might be when he went the distance with Jon Jones in a loss on the scorecards, but he also looked good in his last fight by submitting Alexander Gustafsson in the fourth round. For the underdog bettors, they like Teixeira to win by KO at +675. Bet on the fights here.

Saturday Night Fights

On Saturday, it’s on to UFC Fight Night 172 with heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris colliding in the main event. Harris is a -170 favourite but the majority of the early action we’re seeing is on the underdog Overeem at +130. In the co-main event, Claudia Gadelha is a -190 favourite against Angela Hill (+150).

Looking down the road, it looks more and more likely that Conor McGregor will be stepping into the Octagon before too long. In potential fights McGregor is a +230 underdog against Khabib Nurmagomedov, +130 against Jorge Masvidal, -140 against Justin Gaethje, and -250 against Nate Diaz.

Golf fans have something to look forward to this weekend too. The TaylorMade Driving Relief Skins Game is set to go Sunday with Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson facing Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff. McIlroy and Johnson opened at -250 but underdog wagers have dropped that line down to -215 now. The $4 million purse will be donated to COVID-19 charities. Get the best odds.

sports set to return amidst covid-19 shutdown

Have you been brushing up on your Bundesliga? The top soccer league in Germany is about to resume play this weekend with a full slate of matchups. As play gets back underway on the pitch, Bayern Munich is a huge favourite to claim another title at -9259 with Borussia Dortmund next on the futures board at +800.

Now that the 2020 NFL schedule has been released, get ready for a wave of prop betting options. This week odds on the first coach to be fired this season went live and Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia is the favorite to get his walking papers before anyone else at +300. Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone is at +400. Check out all of the other NFL props.

Hopefully more and more sports return to play in the weeks ahead as we get a better grasp on COVID-19 and everybody stays safe.
